President Abraham Lincoln shares our nation’s history and his own personal history by way of some of his favorite stories and jokes. Mr. Lincoln sometimes told these jokes and Stories simply to entertain, but more often than not, when he would begin “That reminds me of a little story…”, there were other reasons, too. He might wish to illustrate a point, relieve tension, or distract from the difficulties and hard realities of life, especially in the midst of the Civil War. Mr. Lincoln’s stories will make you laugh, but many will also cause you to reflect on life, people, and the world we live in. Bottled messages have been discovered on shore nearly as long as glass containers have been invented. They bring tidings from ocean voyagers, invitations for pen-pals, tragic attempts for rescue, and floating farewells from long lost souls. Ric Mixter’s new book, Bottled Goodbyes chronicles the most famous messages ever recovered, including three bottles found after the Titanic disaster. Ric is a shipwreck researcher, diving over 100 shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, including the Edmund Fitzgerald. The link to attend this Zoom presentation will be posted here prior to the event.
